From as far back as I can remember, I have always been conscious of the balance that exists in the world around me. Early on, it was subconscious—it actually wasn’t apparent until I was sixteen years old. Somewhat impulsively, I decided that I would begin taking art class as my elective in high school. I surprised myself, my friends, and my family at my hidden ability to draw. My teacher, Sr. Adelaide Williamson, inspired me to pursue a lifestyle as an artist. I went on to obtain a Bachelors of Architecture at Louisiana State University. I loved designing in the third dimension. I also loved theorizing spatial ideas and bringing them to fruition through building form. After I graduated, I moved to Los Angeles, CA with every intention of being a superstar architect. I learned quite quickly that superstar architects spend 50 years drawing lines on CAD and then—this may be an exaggeration—they may get lucky and design one beautiful building. I also didn’t look forward to the hours of sifting through toilet elevations, structural drawings, and mechanical drawings that I saw in my imminent future. I decided to apply for Graduate school in a visual communications program. It would allow me to take everything I love about architecture and use it with just about anything having to do with design. Now, I am in my first year of the Masters of Design in Communication Planning and Information Design (MDes CPID) Program at Carnegie Mellon University. Though I am keeping my options open, I hope to one day fuse my passion for design and yoga to inspire others to live healthily, happily, and creatively.

For more details on the type of work that I’ve done thus far, sift through my different sections of work. I am available for freelance work and I’m currently pursuing an internship for the Summer of 2010. For questions, comments, suggestions, etc, contact me at scalandro@gmail.com.
